It All Begins With a Dream
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
- Eleanor Roosevelt.
- Do you wake up each morning raring to go?
- Do you look forward to each day, excited with anticipation?
- Do you, when you sleep, look back to the day – with fulfillment?
-
Do you find each action you take purposeful, taking you one step closer to your destiny?
-
Is your answer to each of these questions a resounding ‘yes’? …. If so, I know why and you too know why. However, if your answer is ‘no’, it’s time to … dream.
Wait! I’m not talking of ‘pipe dreams’ or silly dreams or as others dismissively call them ‘day dreams’.
It all begins with a dream
Monty Roberts’ father was a horse trainer. Once, the young Monty in school had a project, ‘What you want to be when you grow up’. His dream – ‘own a horse ranch’. He drew an elaborate diagram of a 200-acre ranch, with the location of all the buildings, stables and track. He had a detailed floor plan of a 4,000 square feet house. For this dream, he received an ‘F’ grade. His teacher tells him – ‘your dream is unrealistic. You have no money. You come from a wandering family. You have no resources. Owning even one horse requires lots of money. You need money to buy land. No way you can do all this. If you rewrite this paper with a more realistic dream, I will reconsider your grade’. Roberts thinks and replies, “You keep the ‘F’, I’ll keep my dream.
Its some years later…. Monty Roberts was in his 4,000 sq. feet home in the middle of his 200 acre ranch. That same teacher had brought 30 school children there. The teacher said, “I was a dream stealer. I stole a lot of children’s dreams.” – Chicken Soup for the Soul.
- I say to you – don’t let anyone steal your dreams. Pursue them. No matter what!
- Your dream provides you the passion.
- When the going gets tough…
- When you reach a wall…
- When you face obstacles…
- When difficulties slow you down…
- When the doubts come…
- Take out your dream, and go on…
Remember,
“Dreams come true, if we only wish hard enough.
You can have anything in life,
If you will sacrifice everything else for it.”
-Sir James Barrie.
Is your dream important to you?
How do you convert your dreams into reality?
Let’s begin.
- The first step – ‘dream your dream’ and put it on paper.
- The second step – ‘visualize your dream’, - paint it in your mind’s eye.
- The third step – ‘plan your dream’ – write down your goals and strategy.
- The fourth step – ‘act on your dream’ – take action in your life.
- The fifth step – ‘review your actions’ - keep fine-tuning them.
‘From dreams to reality’… contd. in the next article.
